This was my first attempt at underwater video.
Annie and I stayed on the islands of Rarotonga and Aitutaki (Cook Islands) for part of our honeymoon in 2009 - an amazing experience. We dived both islands and I got to grips with the underwater camera on the first couple of dives. Just as well, as on the last dive a humpback whale and her calf crossed our path. The whale was huge, about the size of 2 buses, and amazingly quiet. I didn’t realise that they were ahead of us until I heard our divemaster Onu literally shouting underwater. It seemed like the whale & calf were in front of us for only a couple of seconds and then they were gone.
What a lovely treat to enjoy on our honeymoon!
The whale appears at 04:50 in the video if you want to skip forward - but then you might miss the turtles, reef sharks, fishes and the wife :)
We were joined by two other honeymooning couples: Christine & Drew, Sheldon & Casey plus our divemaster Onu from diveaitutaki.com
For the geeks: the camera was a Canon Digital Ixus 100 IS with Canon WP-DC31 Underwater Housing and wide angle lens. The sounds of breathing through the regulator, bubbles and our excited divemaster shouting were recorded by the camera in its housing.
